in the uk a new craze is underway in the org - its called "green thumb" and is run by an elder in heswall on merseyside.. he is recruiting other elders and ms to buy franchises and county areas and employ pioneers to sell the services door to door or on the phone.

been going now about 4 years and the bro in heswall is now worth 30million.. he encourages the franchise holders to employ pioneers and "youths" because they are reliable, experienced salespeople and dirt cheap.

anybody heard of this .

Having experienced the lawn treatment service in the United States in 1985, I saw the great potential for a lawn treatment service in the United Kingdom.

GreenThumb was born on 1 April 1986, where I treated lawns along the North Wales coast. Armed with 1,000 leaflets, I distributed them to homes on a housing estate. When I called back to see their response, the very first lady I spoke to said this was just was she needed. That was a great start.

Today there are almost 100 GreenThumb operations across the UK from as far a field as the Isle of Wight to Falkirk in Scotland. We are still opening a new branch every month. Did Being a JW Make You a Bully VICTIM in SCHOOL?

i read this article in the montreal gazette that talked about a young witness kid being bullied in school.

it made me think back to all the times i was treated differently in school for being a jehovah's witness.

i grew up in a predominately mexican community and went to public school there from 1st-12th grade as a jw.

Yes absolutely

I was harrassed and bullied for 5 years all through my secondary school for 2 standing up for right principles". In the end I lost it with 3 lads and went up to the biggest one and kicked him in the balls - Hard ("one wack in the happy sack and down they go" A.J. Rimmer)

I was was never bothered again, so much for showing brotherly love - I was placed on probation in the hall because one "brother" saw me do it and I refused to show signs of remorse

Watchtower Society holding personal information / files?

a matter just occurred to me a few minutes ago which was on my mind quite a long while back.. does the local kh and the society hold personal information and/or files about members and/or former members?

if they do, how long do they keep this information?

is this a fully legal practice?.

Hi there

About 3 years ago the Society made a number of changes relating to the DPA (Data Protection Act). This was a massive "c) change on the way bodies of elders use and operate information.

The end result is that, because new legislation relates to paper as well as digital - almost all information has been destroyed or sent to bethel (depending on severity, child abuse etc etc). Also all publishers had to sign a "Data Protection permission" notation on the p[ublisher record cards - also the S8 forms were withdrawn.

The exception is serious disfellowshipping matters which are stored in the safe and copies sent to bethel - all other jusdicial matters were shredded or moved. No notes are now to be made at judicial matters and the elders have to recall using "Holy Spirit".

I was an attendee at the elders meetings, the society were doing a full CYA - they were terrified (nd still are) of the DPA. The database location is secret and I beleive off shore - to cover the DPA loophole.

Do the society have information on you that you can use the DPA for? probably - but you need to ask fro it carefully - and don't forget to request the elders meeting minutes, Bethel and any computers that they are linked to that may or may not be in the UK

Our latest Elders Meeting with the CO has just occurred. New things arising are:-

1. Before an MS or Elder is appointed a specific question is asked:-

"Has the brother ever been, or been accussed of, or alledged to be a child molester?" The next question is "are you absolutley sure, is there any hint of this?" - score one for Silent Lambs

2 Are there any elderly who have a phone but cannot get to the meetings? If so use the congregation phone to "Hook them up" and count them as attendees!! If there are more than one then use BTs conference service, the elderlys attendance at thje meetings for spiritual food is important (ie we can count them even if they are not here!)

3. In an elders letter to the congregation in November it highlights "attending the spiritual needs of the territory" including shopping malls, markets, town centres and old peoples homes. It suggests VERY STRONGLY approaching the owners of the mall, market etc to set up a stall to give the mags away.

It also suggests that the owners of all local old folks homes be contacted to provide a "Free weekly bible discussion" to all elderly who want to attend in the home. This is to be a planned weekly event to increase the number of studys pioneers hold and "provide a valuable service to the community" The society expect to see Bible studies go up by 25% this year

An elder is to be appointed to direct this work and is to communicate progress to the CO directly on a monthly basis.

4. Any Brother, MS or Elder who is alleged to have done wrongdoing must have his status reviewed - even if this is only an allegation.

5. Any Brother, MS or Elder who's Partner is alleged to have done wrongdoing must have his status reviewed - even if this is only an allegation as he will be deemed "Not to be presiding over his household in a fine manner

7.A review of the item "Listening to the voice of strangers" from the last assembly was reviewed. Our CO mentioned the question of the BBC/ Hutton report - however no mention was made of the panorama program (It didn't need to be, everyone knew it anyway)

8. MS's can be appointed if they do the average hours in a cong - even if that average is 5 (but must exclude Bible Studys)

Has Anyone Ever Met Any Celebrities?

this is a spin-off of another thread where my *mild and chaste* friend, mouthy, admitted to wanting to meet her dream man, tom jones, and that she would even go so far as to throw her bloomers at him, if that is what it would take to get his attention!

well, the mental picture this painted was far too much for me to bear, so i encouraged her to save her red polka-dotted "unmentionables", not only because she might need them in the future, but because i didn't think she'd have to go that far to get his attention.

and i said that - because of a personal experience with him.

Charles M Shultz - one of natures nice guys, Met him at an AmericanAirlines first class check in (I was being upgraded free). Had a gold snoopy in his lapel. I saw him later in the lounge and had a drink with him at the bar - he drew me a small picture of snoopy and the red baron - I have it hanging on my wall

Diana Princess of Wales - A gentle yet confident lady, met her at Highgrove in her happier times at a garden party. She was wonderful, funny and full of life. She treated my family with such kindness that my children still talk about it to this day. We kept in touch until she passed away and were heart broken the day she died. I never saw sadness in her, just a love of life and living

the watchtower bible track society relies very heavily upon these men to make sure that they have a tight grip on each congregation.. the structure for control that the wt.

has in place needs it's eyes and ears to find out whether or not a congregation is following all the rules that the wt has laid out for it.

Features of a good CO:-

No feeling - do what the wtbs says

Follow the book - bring everyone into line who is not

CYA - incase things go wrong - make sure nothing is pointing at you

Be like bill clinton - be the teflon kid, nothing sticks

Be humble - you get paid more "gifts" that way

Frighten people over one issue ' they feel you are more spiritual

Today is my birthday

just thought i'd let you'll know that today is my 34th birthday.

i recieved loads of gifts which my kids helped me open (i think they were more excited than i was).

i've been noticing a few grey hairs showing recently and its becoming more of a struggle to keep my waist size down.
